Each month, we shine the spotlight on a standout Vietnamese Phu Quoc Ridgeback dog. This month, we travel to the vibrant streets of Saigon to meet the unforgettable Soi (aka WOLF) and his owner, An Nguyen.

WOLF – A WARRIOR’S SPIRIT IN THE BODY OF A PHÚ QUỐC DOG

In the heart of vibrant Saigon, I crossed paths with my destiny — a brindled dog with a wild soul, eyes rimmed in deep black like they held ancient stories, and a spotted tongue that felt like a blessing from the sky. His name is Sói — Wolf. Over the years, I’ve raised many Phú Quốc dogs, but none like him. There was something in that very first look — when he saw me not just as a stranger, but as an old friend. That moment wove an invisible thread between us, strong and unshakable. It inspired me to dive deep into training — over six months of learning, growing, and discovering limits together. From his untamed beginnings, Sói has become something extraordinary: the very first Phú Quốc dog to perform Dog Parkour. He climbs ladders with windlike grace, leaps over obstacles as if they were toys, and performs tricks — crossing paws, giving a handshake, responding to calls and commands with the calm focus of a ninja.  Whether perched in a tree, climbing like a shadow, or simply sitting in stillness, Sói’s photos reveal more than agility — they show a centered mind, a spirit that listens, understands, and connects.

In fact, Sói’s resilience goes beyond parkour—he once survived a venomous snake bite that left him immobilized for weeks. While a corgi in our home didn’t make it, Sói’s instinct led him to the grasses he loved, and against all odds he recovered. It’s that warrior’s spirit that fuels every ladder climb and every leap he makes today

AFTER 20+ YEARS OF RAISING PHÚ QUỐC DOGS, HERE’S WHAT I’VE LEARNED:

  1. Choose pups with clear origin and known parents.

  2. Look for energy, curiosity, and responsiveness.

  3. Feed them a balanced, nutrient-rich diet for strength.

  4. Start training early — with gentle patience.

  5. Play and connect every single day. Phú Quốc dogs thrive on love, loyalty, and deep bonds.

Sói is living proof: With the right care, a Phú Quốc dog isn’t just a companion — they become a warrior, a kindred spirit, and a source of pride.
